Merian Chrysalis
now Chrysalis Investments
Chrysalis Investments (formerly Merian Chrysalis prior to the acquisition of Merian Global Investors by Jupiter Fund Management) is a London-listed investment trust focused on providing capital to late-stage, private, high-growth, and disruptive technology companies, often just before they IPO. The trust targets private companies with significant growth potential, allowing individual investors access to this asset class.
For its 2019 Annual Report, Merian Chrysalis tasked B&C with producing a contemporary, growth-oriented design to reflects its focus on high-growth, late-stage private and pre-IPO technology businesses. We created a playful geometric magnetic device to serve as a recurring visual motif throughout the report, combining abstract geometric shapes with subtle gradient or metallic effects to evoke innovation and stability.
Its structure – often composed of interconnected triangles, hexagons, or circular forms – mirrors the concept of networks and growth, reflecting the company’s focus on high-potential, scalable technology investments. Its use to create a large butterfly on the front cover plays on the ‘chrysalis’ element of the company name, giving wings to emerging companies.
The layout of the report is clean and spacious, with a strong structure and clear typographic hierarchy that helps organise a mix of strategic narrative, portfolio commentary, and financial disclosure. A largely green colour palette and consistent brand styling are used throughout to create a cohesive visual identity, while bold section openers and highlighted key metrics help draw attention to performance, net asset value progression, and portfolio developments.
